Questions and Answers About Sleep

For almost a decade now, I've suffered from a form off insomnia that only allows me to sleep roughly 6-7 hours per night, but the problem is that I don't feel rested in the morning. In fact, my body aches, my throat is sore, and though I want to sleep more, I can't fall back asleep. I don't drink alcohol or coffee (sometimes, I have tea, but never at night). I do, however, smoke cigarettes during the day. I get plenty of exercise. In fact, I bike everywhere to stay in shape. My diet can suffer at times, but for the most part, I eat very health (salads, sandwiches, sushi, fish, tofu, soups, fruits and vegetables).

My previous doctor prescribe a generic ambien for me, which left me groggy in the morning, so we then switch to clonazepam, because she suspected that I might have restless leg syndrome. The thing is, this drug only worked a few times, and I want to avoid it, because it is addictive. I've slept on a number of different mattresses, too, and I currently uses a quilted 4" memory foam overlay on my mattress now. I sometimes use valarian root and/or melatonin to fall asleep when desperate, but I would really like a non-drug treatment if anyone knows of something to try.

I'm really sick of this lack of restful sleep. It affects my focus, my motivation, and even my daily performance. If there are more things you think I should try, definitely email me (justindimos@hotmail.com). If you have similar symptoms and have found great treatment, I'm willing to hear them. I would like to hear them. Please help me out of this mess. Thanks, and I hope to hear from people soon...
